Introduction
Mia Seppälä is a Helsinki-based visual artist, researcher and educator. Her practice moves between photography, moving image, text, performance and printmaking. Her work explores images as cultural and material phenomena, and the ways images transform, circulate and acquire meaning across different contexts.
Seppälä received her MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, in 2017 and completed her Doctorate in Fine Arts there in 2026. Her artistic research focuses on the materialisation of digital photography, painted-out images, and verbal description as methods of visual inquiry and artistic practice.
